Our garden sunflowers are now in full bloom — one of the first signs of fall at our farmstay bed and breakfast in the Catskills. With fall around the corner we will begin making horseradish, drying apples, and roasting sunflower seeds…every season has fun projects on the farm!
For tips on how to roast your own sunflower seed, follow the link below:
If you are looking for a great get-a-way, the trees will soon begin to turn with peak expected sometime between September 28th and October 15th – depending on the weather.

We are excited that the Delaware County Fair begins today – running for the whole week. This highlight of the Catskill region features lots of horses, cow, pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens. In addition, the fair hosts a tractor pull, bull riding, demolition derby, and great rides/food. Should be a great week!

Join the Franklin Stage Company SATURDAY, JULY 28 at 8pm for Upstate Stories with Big Chuck. The theater is free and open to the public!
Come learn and laugh with a virtuosic storyteller, the popular author and award-winning regional radio personality “BIG CHUCK” D’IMPERIO. FSC is our local production company which brings actors from New York City to the Catskills to produce several great plays each summer.
Founded in 1996, the Franklin Stage Company is dedicated to the production of classic and new plays that unsettle, provoke, and entertain. We thrive on the energy that flows between actor and audience, for we know that in this age of electronic media, human contact can be all too rare.
For more information on the Franklin Stage Company and a schedule for this summer’s plays – visit their website

We are excited to announce that Handsome Brook Farm Bed and Breakfast just passed our 2012 certified organic inspection today! The other big news is that we will begin picking organic blueberries and organic raspberries tomorrow…the berries look great and we are excited that the berries will start to appear in Catskill area supermarkets next week — or feel free to stop by the farm to purchase a few pints.
The certification body for the USDA in New York is NOFA-NY Certified Organic, LLC – see the website below for organic certification guidelines:

Handsome Brook Farm is a Farm Staycation (also called Farm Stay) where families can stay at our bed and breakfast in the Catskills, feed animals, and participate in farm activities.

Monarch larvae appear to feed exclusively on milkweeds in the genus Asclepias and several other genera of viny milkweeds in North America. Milkweeds are perennial plants, which means an individual plant lives for more than one year, growing each spring from rootstock and seeds rather than seeds alone. At Handsome Brook Farm Bed and Breakfast, we have created an un-mowed buffer zone on our berry hill in the Catskills, where milkweed plants flourish, and monarchs hatch every year.
